RULES – TYPAL IDENTITY
Your typal deck must conform to the following regulations. These rules are in addition to other deck construction/colour identity rules, which still apply as normal. Random deck checks will be performed to ensure conformity to these standards.
A ‘Typal Identity’ is a creature type. (i.e. Angels, Zombies, Slivers etc.)
At least 30 cards in your deck must be in your Typal Identity.
Your Commander does NOT have to conform to Typal Identity rules (as not all types have Commanders with a matching creature type or rules text).
You must declare your Typal Identity at the start of the game.
Cards are in your Typal Identity if any of the following is true:
They are your chosen Creature type.
They have Changeling, or it appears in their rules text.
They refer to your Creature type in their rules text.
They have the text “choose a creature type” in their rules text.
EXAMPLE
Lars wants to build an “Angels” deck which must contain at least 30 “Angel Typal” cards. All of his “Creature – Angel” cards count towards this, as do:
Seraph Sanctuary (has “Angel” in the rules text)
Door of Destinies (has “choose a creature” in the rules text)
Bishop of Wings (has “Angel” in the rules text)
The Book of Exalted Deeds (has “Angel” in its rules text)
Crib Swap (has “Changeling” in it’s card type)
He cannot count “Angel’s Mercy”, because while it has “Angel” in the name, it doesn’t have it in the rules text. Of course, he can still run it in his deck (if it is on-colour), it just doesn’t count towards his Typal Identity quota.
